Belgian police recover two stolen paintings worth $900,000 from a cellar in Antwerp
Why it matters
The recovery of the stolen paintings after 14 years is significant as it marks the end of a decade-long search and provides closure for the art collector's family
What the papers say
The Guardian reports that the paintings were recovered after a months-long covert police operation. The Independent and The Times provide similar details about the recovery of the stolen paintings in Antwerp, with The Times adding information about the sophisticated heist and the value of the stolen jewellery. Business Insider UK's article is unrelated to the recovery of the stolen paintings.

The paintings were stolen in 2010 from a Tel Aviv villa owned by the Herzikovich family. The recovery of the paintings followed a breakthrough in the investigation at the end of 2022, when Belgian police received a tipoff about an art dealer offering the paintings for sale.
