UK Begins Covid-19 and Flu Booster Vaccination Program
The UK has started its autumn booster vaccination program for Covid-19 and flu, with a focus on older and vulnerable people. The program was brought forward due to concerns about a new Covid variant, BA.2.86, also known as Pirola. The aim is to provide additional protection to those most at risk and reduce the impact on the health service. Eligible individuals will be contacted by their GP or can attend a community pharmacy to receive the vaccines. The rollout includes adults aged 65 and over, those in clinical risk groups, care home residents, frontline health and social care workers, carers, and those living with immunosuppressed individuals. The flu vaccine will also be offered to preschool and school children, as well as pregnant women.
