MPs in the UK have approved a plan to ban the imports of hunting trophies.
The Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill aims to prevent hunters from importing parts of threatened species, particularly from Africa.
A number of celebrity supporters including Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Joanna Lumley, Gary Lineker, and Sir Ranulph Fiennes have backed the prohibition.
The bill has already faced numerous hurdles and amendments, some of which threaten to derail it.
The UK's Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill has passed in the House of Commons, aiming to prohibit the imports of animal parts from hunting abroad.
The bill aims particularly to target those hunting threatened species, especially in Africa.
It has been dubbed Sally's Law after a rescued tiger cub.
The bill faced a hurdle sponsored by MPs Bill Wiggin and Christopher Chope, which threatened to derail its progress in the Commons.
However, the amendment failed and the bill passed unopposed.
If the bill is passed by the House of Lords, it will become law.
The Mirror reports that this victory was due to their campaign efforts, which had been active for some time prior to the bill's success.
They also point out the celebrity endorsements for the bill, which include Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Gary Lineker, Dame Joanna Lumley, Dame Judi Dench, Liam Gallagher, Sir Rod Stewart, and Ricky Gervais.
In contrast, The Independent focuses on potential challenges to the bill from MPs Wiggin and Chope.
The Conservatives had previously vowed to introduce this ban, so the bill is not without controversy within the party.
Despite the support and celebrity endorsements, The Independent's sources have highlighted the real danger that not enough MPs may turn up to oppose the hostile amendments, given that most are in their constituencies on Fridays.
As a result, conservationists are anxious that the proposed ban could still be derailed.
