SpaceX and T-Mobile team up to eliminate mobile dead zones
SpaceX and T-Mobile have announced a partnership to provide mobile coverage to remote areas using Starlink satellites. The companies plan to offer text coverage, including SMS, MMS and participating messaging apps, nearly everywhere in the continental US, Hawaii, parts of Alaska, Puerto Rico and territorial waters starting with a beta in select areas by the end of next year. The service will allow regular mobile phones to connect to signals, eliminating the need for satellite phones. The vast majority of smartphones already on T-Mobile's network will be compatible with the new service using the device's existing radio.
