Dominic Raab, the justice secretary, says that the Met "clearly has a problem" that needs to be tackled following reports that an independent review will criticise the force for being racist, sexist and homophobic.
The independent review was commissioned following the murder of Sarah Everard in 2021 by serving officer Wayne Couzens.
Former victims' commissioner Baroness Casey is expected to publish her findings next week.
While Raab acknowledged that the vast majority of police officers within the force do their job professionally, the Guardian reports that the review will make for "horrible" reading for the Met which is now in the "last-chance saloon".
The Guardian reports that the review, which is due to be published next week, will "excoriate" Britain's largest police force with findings of racism, sexism and homophobia.
Raab told LBC that the government would leave "no stone unturned" to ensure that the police in this country, and particularly in the Met, were protecting women, not posing a threat to them.
