What's happened
Manchester City and Real Madrid draw 1-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final
Why it matters
The draw leaves the tie evenly poised ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City will feel confident heading back to the Etihad with the tie level. Real Madrid's Luka Modric has been passed fit to face Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final. Modric's return for the clash at the Bernabeu is a further boost to the holders' confidence on the back of their weekend triumph. The tie is a rematch of last year's semi-finals when City left the Bernabeu heartbroken after letting a place in the final slip through their grasp. Real went on to win in extra time.
What the papers say
The Independent and The Guardian provide similar coverage of the event, with The Independent focusing more on Manchester City's confidence and Real Madrid's Luka Modric's return, while The Guardian provides more background on Carlo Ancelotti's achievements with Real Madrid.
How we got here
Manchester City and Real Madrid faced each other in the semi-finals of the Champions League last year, with Real Madrid winning in extra time. Manchester City have won all their Champions League games at the Etihad Stadium this season, including beating RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich 7-0 and 3-0 respectively in the knockout stages, and have lost just once in the Premier League.
