US Senators Propose Legislation to Give Government Powers to Ban TikTok and Other Foreign Technologies
A bipartisan group of US senators has introduced legislation to grant the government new powers to ban Chinese-owned video app TikTok and other foreign-based technologies if they pose national security threats. The bill would give the commerce department the authority to impose restrictions, including banning TikTok and other technologies from China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba. TikTok has expressed concerns that a US ban would hinder the export of American culture and values. The White House has provided input on the draft legislation but has not confirmed if it will endorse the bill.
