Man paralysed for 12 years walks again thanks to brain and spinal cord implants
Gert-Jan Oskam, a 40-year-old Dutchman who was paralysed from the hips down after a motorcycle accident in 2011, has regained the ability to walk thanks to two implants that restored communication between his brain and spinal cord. The implants, developed by researchers in France and Switzerland, create a direct neurological link between the brain and spinal cord, allowing Oskam to walk naturally, take on difficult terrain and even climb stairs.
