Ethereum's Shapella upgrade enables investors to withdraw $30bn worth of Ether
Ethereum's Shapella upgrade has enabled investors to withdraw Ether coins they had pledged to help operate Ethereum in return for rewards - a process known as staking. The upgrade will unlock more than $30 billion worth of ether, which investors had deposited on the Ethereum blockchain in return for interest. The upgrade is a necessary step after the world's most commercially important crypto platform shifted to a less power-hungry process for ordering transactions. The delays in withdrawals are an example of the limits in the transactions that Ethereum can process, highlighting its potential shortcomings as it strives to become a widely-used financial infrastructure.
