Gary Lineker, a BBC football presenter, has taken to Twitter to comment on the recent legal defence made by Boris Johnson over Partygate.
Lineker tweeted, "When folk constantly tell fibs, it's really difficult to know when they're telling the truth.
I imagine it's even a challenge for themselves.
" This tweet came less than an hour after the former PM defended his denials over lockdown parties in No 10 as having been made "in good faith" and based on what he "honestly" knew at the time.
This exchange follows a recent controversy where Lineker had been briefly suspended as host of the Match Of The Day over comments on the government's policy towards asylum seekers.
Despite the controversy, Lineker returned to the broadcasting team after his fellow co-hosts and commentators went on strike.
There has been no clarification from Lineker to indicate whether his tweet was aimed at Mr Johnson or not.
The Prime Minister's 52-page Partygate defence dossier has been the subject of much scrutiny over the past few weeks.
The former PM's legal defence documents contain details of Mr Johnson answering several questions over a series of social events held in Downing Street during the pandemic, which Johnson denies have taken place.
As the events of Partygate continue to attract attention, many have taken to social media to express their opinions.
The contrast between the presentation of Johnson's defence from The Independent and The Telegraph highlights differing views towards the matter.
The Independent noted that Lineker had tweeted about "folk" who "constantly tell fibs" and mentioned the PM briefly.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph's article specifically suggests that Lineker's tweet was about Mr Johnson's credibility.
